UGK-International Players Anthem

there have been so many times where i've been sitting around with a group of people talking about how our generation won't have any songs we'll want to listen to when we get older. we sit and wonder if we'll be able to fondly reminisce about our youth through the music of our time like our parents and grandparents often do. i know that personally hiphop will always be a part of my life, but im not always so sure that when im 70 years old i'll want to sit down and listen to A Milli. i have been listening to songs more for their replay-ability and "timelessness" lately, and one song i know i'll be listening to into old age is International Players Anthem. if not for the fact that the whole song is great, but for the fact that 3000 completely destroys it. wordplay and creativity of that caliber just doesnt get old no matter how old you are. so today, or maybe for the next few days (or weeks even) listen closer to your favorite songs. will you really want to listen to them a 2 weeks from now? 2 months? a year? 5 years? 20 years? 40 years? that is definitely a very long time a way, but just think about it.

Lupe Fiasco: Don't Forget'em

i'm not sure why, or how you would forget lupe fiasco, but he is worried you might have. in a new interview with Ruby Hornet Lupe speak's on MTV's Top Emcees list, L.A.S.E.R.S, and why he does it for the fans. check it out here. enjoy.

"I’ll be your super role-model. I’m your super-duper homeboy friend that is able to go anywhere and do anything. If you want me to talk about something, I’m going to talk about it. If there’s something on your mind, know that it’s on my mind too and I’m going to put it in a public space. It may seem that nobody cares, I’m going to make a whole damn album about it and put it on MTV. So when you look at me being on this list, it’s for my fans. So they could be like, OK, Lupe’s back on the list, we got a homeboy on there too."

Beyonce thanks Jay for puttin' a ring on it

as much as i am jealous of jay-z and wish i had beyonce for myself, this is a great moment. skip to about 0:25 to see it

"The Carter"

every generation has it's undeniable stars. those people who, whether you like their music or not, seem untouchable. the rockstars who live lives that most of us only dream about, and the rest of us are just to scared to chase. one of those people for our generation is none other than Lil Wayne. For some time now Lil Wayne has been doing his thing and he has never stopped. he only does what he feel, and he feels everything he does. he puts all of himself into his music and to me, that is an admirable trait. im excited to see this so i can get a chance to look into the life of someone who has become a living legend in their own right.

enjoy the trailer

Mr Hudson - Straight No Chaser

so, im not gonna do a full on review of his album right now, but i am listening to it and i am enjoying it. some of it sounds the way 808s and heartbreak would have sounded if kanye could actually sing (and thats no diss on either of their parts). i like the way his voice sounds and i really like the production. he also has very relatable lyrics. you don't have to search through a bunch of metaphorical stanzas to find what he means in a song. it is very direct and to the point. for example, the track "anyone but him" is painfully honest and easily relatable.

Anyone but him
I'd rather hear you had the whole football team
Than have to watch his filthy lips on your skin
Anyone but him
Anyone but him

With schoolboy fists, we can take this outside
But knowing my luck that fuck could win
Anyone but him

i think im gonna end this post here. good night.
